Introducing Facebook Reactions

Introducing ‪#‎Facebook‬ Reactions, now in testing. So far, it seems like a better alternative than the previously discussed ‪#‎Dislike‬ button. What are your thoughts?

"Reactions gives you new ways to express love, awe, humor and sadness. It's not a dislike button, but it does give you the power to easily express sorrow and empathy -- in addition to delight and warmth. You’ll be able to express these reactions by long pressing or hovering over the Like button."

It looks like Facebook has decided not to follow through with the Dislike feature.  Instead, Reactions may be rolled out which allows us to submit between a few emojis to relay our thoughts.  How do you feel about this?

Is this really necessary?  Are we at a point in our society where a picture of a yellow smiley face will convey a message more directly than the use of actual words?  If we want to show compassion, sympathy, excitement towards someone on our News Feed, should we leave a comment or leave an emoji?  Which would invoke a greater emotion to you?
